Most days, I go about doing my work either at my home office or in the city. Most of the time on my commute into the city or either at home, I am always observing people and paying attention to the quirkiest of things. If its on the way to work or just resting my eyes from the computer by looking outside, I often find things that make me go hmmm and I have the urge to let it swirl around in my brain and then I normally feel like writing about it. The same goes for my work. Often there are things that make me happy, annoyed or just frustrated and I feel the need to write about it. Well the time has come and I am happy to announce the arrival of sushimonstr.com! As I mentioned in the About Me section, the main theme that the articles published will be based on my work with the web, but I will mix it up every now and then to add some spice for all you wonderful readers!
I would like to take this opportunity to explain why I decided to start a blog. The main reason is this site will serve as part of my portfolio and also now that I am looking for full time employment, this will be a great place for me to point people towards so that they know what I am capable of. In addition to that, many web professionals have blogs that they write on which often lead to new opportunities, speaking gigs (which I am very interested in and would like to get into) and new connections with like minded people. Lastly, writing has always been my passion and I can tell you its no easy feat. Building writing chops are like developing muscles; the more you do it the better you get. Plus, writing in my opinion not only makes you a more articulate person, but it also makes you a better communicator in general which in my industry is a very important skill to have.
This blog has one peculiarity associated with it. My archives will not be paginated at all. Why? When I set out to create my blog, I wanted it to reflect what it would be if I were to actually write in an old journal, which is why I decided to include the parchment texture to provide that feel and prior to the inception of creating online archives for your blog, we would have to troll through entries to find what we were looking for. Some may find this annoying and some may like this “feel”. I for one love this feel of having to troll through entries like that. Maybe its my ever active imagination or a quirky trait that I have never been able to shake off or maybe its that I feel that sometimes we need to take things back to when it was done the old school way. Its like hunting for treasure, you never know what you are going to find. For the trigger happy and anxious ones, I have included a search facility so feel free to search for something, but I encourage you to spend some time going through the archives and I am sure in time you will love the feeling especially if you become a regular reader and revisit the archives as it grows.
So there you go, today marks the birth date of sushimonstr.com and my journey into writing and the hunt for new opportunities. Something tell me that it’s going to be a little bumpy, but life ain’t exciting if you don’t get thrown a curve ball every now and then. I hope you enjoy your time here and please feel free to chime in on the comments below.
